It was reprinted in French, German, Spanish and Arabic. Written by Mary Virginia Terhune (1830-1922) under the pseudonym Marion Harland. Terhune was a most prolific writer of both fiction and non-fiction works, with this work paving the way for her successful career in domestic writing. Contains chapters on blancmange, cleaning, eggs, game, gingerbread, jellies, the nursery, servants, soap, soups, preserves and brandied fruits, amongst many others. In the publisher's original full cloth binding.
